David Pond

Etang David, 42170 Saint-Just-Saint-Rambert
Etang David is a peri-urban natural area that forms part of the Etangs Foréziens. Easy to observe from the various facilities on site, over a hundred species of birds have been recorded, including kingfishers, great egrets and great crested grebes.
Around the lake, meadows and wetlands offer opportunities to observe the flora and fauna. An educational pond allows visitors to get up close to aquatic insects such as dragonflies. The Forez ponds are an important part of the region's historical heritage. The first of them date back to the Middle Ages, and their presence has enabled the development of fish farming on the Forez plain, creating areas of biodiversity unique to the département. Today, only 350 of the 1500 ponds that existed in the 18th century remain. Don't hesitate to visit the Maison départementale de la pêche et de la nature to discover its immersive scenographic space. A digital guided tour, an Explor'Games and a host of activities are on offer throughout the year.
