The monks who lived here owned many valuable items (clothing embroidered with fine gold, gold and silver vases, statues carved from precious wood, and more). But a thief broke into the church and stole this treasure. Capucine and Coline need your help to find it. Champdieu derives all its unique charm from its medieval fortifications, which are still visible today. The Romanesque crypt and the former cloister of the Benedictine priory make it a delightful stop for any lover of Romanesque art and cultural heritage.

Guided tours allow you to explore: - the priory’s rampart walk (accessible since the site’s restoration) and the “Treasury of the Priors” (three levels of exhibits featuring sacred objects listed on the National Heritage Inventory) - the Romanesque church and its crypt - the convent buildings (cloister, refectory with its 15th-century fresco, etc.) - the remains of the ancient medieval ramparts (a free educational trail titled “A Thousand Years of History” via the Chemin des Effossés) - the permanent exhibition at the Center for Romanesque Art, “Monks and Builders of the Year 1000” (free)
