Nestled between vineyards and a volcano, Goutelas is a medieval fortified house that was transformed into a Renaissance residence in the 16th century. With its H-shaped layout, glazed roofs, towers, and ramparts, the castle forms a unique and harmonious ensemble. Gradually abandoned during the 19th century, Goutelas owes its rebirth to a remarkable collective and community-driven effort: beginning in the 1960s, men and women from all walks of life came together to volunteer their time to rebuild the castle and turn it into a gathering place, open to the local community and the world. Since then, Goutelas has been a living heritage site, a space for creativity, sharing, and fellowship in the heart of the Forez region.
