Interpretive Trail - Exploring the Crêts - 10-km loop

Elevation : 1322m
Collet de l'oeillon, 42520 Véranne

Description

The iconic Pilat trail... A loop along the ridgeline, crossing heathlands and chirats (scree fields), offering breathtaking panoramic views of the region’s valleys and peaks...
You can hike up to the Crêt de l'Oeillon just to take a deep breath of fresh air. Standing at the bow of a ship, gaze out at the horizon and the white line of the Alps... But it would be a shame not to hike to the highest point of the range (Crêt de la Perdrix, 1,432 m) by crossing moors and scree slopes. The mountain atmosphere is guaranteed here. Just look at the names of some of the local inhabitants: the Alpine accentor, a passerine that loves rocks, or mountain arnica with its yellow-orange flower heads that look like little suns! The informational brochure also introduces the “Circuit des Trois Dents” trail and the Saut du Gier. The brochure is available for purchase at La Maison du Parc or at the Bessat Tourist Office for €2. Starting point: Crêt de la Perdrix (between Le Bessat and La Jasserie) or Crêt de l’Oeilllon (Col de l’Oeillon on the D63) Yellow and white trail markers Duration: 3 hours for 10 km Min. elevation: 1,318 m Max. elevation: 1,432 m Difficulty: Caution in foggy weather—it is difficult to navigate the Crêts du Pilat.
