You need to pace yourself carefully on this relatively long route, which features a series of climbs and descents.
Shortly after leaving the village of Sainte-Colombe-sur-Gand and following the banks of the Bernand for a while, the Pont Marteau viaduct comes into view. A gradual climb then leads towards the D1 road, which the route crosses several times on the way to Néronde. From there, the terrain is gentle until the outskirts of Saint-Marcel-de-Félines. Near the village, the slopes become slightly steeper, before the return leg via Saint-Just-la-Pendue levels out, apart from a final climb into Sainte-Colombe.
